What to Wear for your Brand Photography Shoot? Impress Yourself!

Wondering what to wear for your branding photography shoot? Here’s how a few small fixes can change it all.
You’ve taken the plunge – well done! – but figuring out what to wear for a brand photography shoot can be daunting. Especially when you’re the star attraction!
This is not the time for last minute laundry raids. A little bit of care and attention will go a long way, my friend. Yes, you should dress with what suits you – but there are a few cardinal rules for a brand photoshoot that don’t apply to other types of shoot. Read on for my quick fixes to a brand photoshoot wardrobe.
What to wear to your brand photography shoot

Wear Brand Colours
You don’t have to wear every colour, but acknowledging your brand colours mirrors your branding online and in print, helping you to be more cohesive and recognisable in your branding.

wear brand colours to your photoshoot
Your brand colours are the visual key to your business. In big brands they immediately identify the business (Lego’s bold red and yellow?). You might not be as big as Lego, but mistakes are costly so it’s important to convey a look from the outset that says you’re professional (and yes, you’ve thought about this).
Your entire brand colour palette doesn’t need to feature in your wardrobe, but one or two prominent colours are a great mirror to your logo and website. Some businesses add their brand colours through their photography – where their website lacks a key colour, their images do the rest. If your social feed is your
main profile, it should as a minimum be cohesive in colour and style.
When choosing your outfits for your brand photoshoot, opt for block colours in headshots. Patterns suit lifestyle photos better as they draw the attention away from your eyes (they’re important)! Even if your entire outfit isn’t your brand colour, one piece or visible accessory can make a big difference. Your colour choices should complement or match your brand palette. Be aware of tone, too – bold pink is not the same as pastel pink. Lastly, whatever you do choose to wear should not clash with your brand colours.
Pick the Right Style for your Brand Personality
The last thing you want to wear to your brand photoshoot is something that clashes stylistically with your branding. Wear what your clients expect to see.

Wearing the right style for your brand shoot
What would your clients expect to see someone who works for you wearing? It’s fine to think of personal comfort (you have to wear it after all), but don’t reach for sneakers if you’re a formal business. Equally, I wouldn’t expect to see my down-to-earth wellbeing coach in a pair of Louboutins, even if she does own a beautiful pair.
So when you’re thinking of the style of clothing have the personality and values of your brand in mind. Bold, brave brands for example would wear something that others consider a bold look. Soft whites would not work as a look!
If you need help thinking about what defines the look or style of your brand personality, here’s some idea of what to include:
– the texture of your clothing,
-the formality – or lack of – of your outfit,
-accessories.
Choose Props that Reflect your Business
What do you sell, serve or make? How do you do that? Obvious visual hints help with instant recognition.

use props that explain what your business sells
As a photographer I tire of seeing photographers’ portraits with cameras… but, if you’re trying to explain what you do in an instant – then a camera is a pretty good sign!
A few shots with some props that quickly sell what your business does are a really handy thing to have. Peppered through an image rich website or social feed will give your audience instant visual clues as to what you do. Styling your brand shoot is a whole different topic – I’m talking pure and simple easy props to add into a shoot wardrobe.
It’s also crucial to connect with your clients even before they become clients, and a great way of doing that is showing what you get up to behind the scenes and before the final product is delivered to them. It might be obvious to you, but the lengths you go to in choosing ingredients are not outwardly obvious to your customers. Adding these props when deciding what to wear will always be a good choice. Plus, it gives you the perfect conversation starter in your content.
Here’s a list of ideas to get you started: your everyday tools (like my lenses, memory cards, scrap books), books, packaging, recipes (made and being enjoyed), brushes, pens, raw ingredients for your products.
Now you know what to wear for your brand photography shoot…
So there you have it – a few quick fixes to your wardrobe choices will turn a personal photo shoot into a more refined and on-brand branding photoshoot.
Pick your colour palette to reflect your brand colours, make sure your style of outfit matches your brand’s personality, and think about props – they’re also a helpful thing to have when you’re a little nervous about your having your photo taken.
